What does TRUST in God truly mean?
As I sat down to write this blog, I found myself at a lost for words. I did not know what to write about, I did not have a topic. I was just lost.
But as I was sitting here, praying asking God to help me, it came to me.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
Trust. That is the first word in Proverbs 3:5, but what does it truly mean to trust something or even someone?
When I look up the word trust on google it says it’s “a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.” A FIRM BELIEF!!!
Wow! I had to think on that first part of the definition for a minute. When something is firm, it means it is solid, unmovable, or even strong. That is something to think about right there alone. How firm is your trust in God?
We always say that we trust God, but we question why things are happing in our lives. Or even why God allowed us to go through the things that we are going through.
It is easy for us to say, “I trust in the Lord,” but when it truly comes to trusting in the Lord, we have a hard time doing it.
But the bible says to “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart”. Meaning simply to trust God no matter what goes on. Good, bad, or ugly ,there is a reason for everything that we go through.
This is where we show God that we trust in him. With our whole heart. We cannot just say that we trust him, but in our hearts, we doubt that power have he has over our lives!!
The second part of that verse is “and lean not unto thine own understanding.” When God takes us through a certain situation, it is not always for us to understand why he is taking us through, but to know it is for a reason. When we question “why” is where our doubt comes in.
If we doubt that God can do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20), we are showing that we honestly don’t trust God to do what he said he would do in our lives.
Often when we doubt God, that is when we make the most mess of our lives. We try to fix things that God already fixed, but because we did not TRUST in him, we mess it up.
Our understanding is not God understanding. Where it might make since to us, God knows how it will turn out in the long run.
I learned sometimes the things that we go through is for us to understand and to truly trust God in all aspects of our lives, not just the part that makes since to us.
So, what does trust in God truly mean? It means that no matter what happens in our lives, we give it all to God to work out and handle. Not question “why am I going through this” but knowing that God has a plan for our lives and we trust and believe it is for a reason that will be a blessing to us in the long run.
God bless.
