Easter was last week. Everybody makes a big deal about Easter. I can remember walking through Kmart and looking at all the pretty Easter dresses for girls with the ruffle socks and the pretty Easter hats and the Easter suits for the boys.
People always made a big deal of how they were going to be dressed. They always had to be looking their best before they headed off to church. You would think it was a competition on how big the sisters of the church hats could get.
Sister Salley's hat had to out shine Mother Sue hat because Mother Sue out did Sister Salley last year.
And the church would be packed with people who may have not gone to church since last Easter Sunday, but they knew it was a tradition to be there bright and early.
Then after all the test-a-lying is over, they go home and eat a big meal and wait til next Easter Sunday to do it again.
But why?
What is the big deal about Easter Sunday that makes people go out and spend a bunch of money on clothes that they will only wear once?
Your guess is just as good as mine.
See, Easter Sunday is supposed to represent when Jesus got up from the grave and why he was there in the first place.
For Me.
See, this year I was able to think back on the suffering, and the pain Jesus had to endure just to get on that cross and die for MY sins. It was not an easy process. They tortured him on the way to Calvary.
Just think about it. All those Years ago, He did it for me. He endured so much so that I can be saved and have eternal life!
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believed in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
God gave up his only son…. For me!!!
Jesus died on the cross…. For me!!!!
Romans 5:8 “ But God commendeth his love toward us, that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
See, at any moment God could have stopped it Jesus at any point could have said that I was not worth it and saved himself from that cross, but he didn't.
He knew that I would need him in my life. So because God loves me just that much, Christ was the ultimate sacrifice for my sins.
You may say to yourself, why are you making this so personal?
It's because to me… it is personal, and it should be for you too.
We as Christians need to take out salvation much more personally than we do. Most of the time, we take it for granted not truly understanding what led up to us being able to ask God to forgive us of our sins and be the Lord and Savior of our lives.
I thank God that he has given me the chance to live eternity with him. And I do not want to take for granted the sacrifice that God has given for me, and to all who name the name of Jesus.
I like this sis..it has to be personal. We shouldn't take what Jesus did for granted, cause he didn't have to do it but in a since he had to do it for the saving of our souls. It's because of his love, his grace that he suffered, died and rose for us. Let me tell you, that" "test-a-lying" piece, took me out.
